Community Charging

Accelerating the Transition to Electric Vehicles

Program Overview

  • The Illinois Finance Authority was legally awarded $14,962,506 in congressionally approved grant funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation to strategically deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and other fueling infrastructure projects in urban and rural communities in publicly accessible locations, including downtown areas and local neighborhoods. This funding will help deploy reliable and convenient charging stations, ensuring that communities across the state have greater access to clean transportation options.
  • The winning joint proposal was developed in response to feedback received by the State of Illinois in a comprehensive stakeholder process in Winter and Spring 2023. Dozens of entities, including municipalities, state universities, and park districts, and other stakeholders, who were included in the initial proposal are designated Project Partners in Illinois’ Community Charging Program.
